Dear Members, WHERE ARE YOU?

Did you know that there are approximately 20,000 members of our Local?

Did you know that only 522 members voted in the spring election?

Did you know that only one member attended the May 1 Candidate Forum?

Everyone else present at the event was an Election Committee member, Candidate, member of the Board, or Local staff person. ONLY ONE MEMBER CAME TO LEARN ABOUT THE CANDIDATES.

The purpose of an election is for the members to decide who should lead their union and, based on the values and goals expressed by each candidate, the direction that the Union should take. But who decides when the members don't show up?

Is the Local working for you? Why or why not?

Did you vote in May? Why or why not?

Are you planning to vote in September? Why or why not?

SEIU Local 500 IS YOUR UNION!! It is not hyperbole to say, "YOU ARE THE UNION!!"

Please get more involved. It doesn't have to be hard.

What does getting involved look like for you?

Voting for Treasurer in September (no matter who you choose)?

Attending a Membership Meeting this year?

Attending a Chapter or Division meeting?

Getting on your Division's Bargaining team?

Attending public testimony wearing your purple & yellow?

Giving testimony at a hearing where worker's rights are on the agenda?

And many more.
